Saskatchewan Doodles Make Great Companion Dogs

I had the honor and privilege of photographing (taking photos) these doodles for Saskadoodles, a breeder in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, in their home. These dogs were so well mannered, trained and listened well. They were in very great hands with the breeder, Jenn who has a lot of knowledge about these dogs and takes a lot of pride and care.

Saskadoodle Companion Dogs is located in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, specializing in F1B Australian Mountain Doodles. These dogs are known for their low to non-shedding coats and temperaments well-suited for families, therapy, or service work.

The breeding program emphasizes health and temperament. Parent dogs undergo comprehensive health testing, including genetic disease screenings, PennHIP evaluations for hip dysplasia, OFA assessments for elbows and heart, and CERF eye examinations by veterinary ophthalmologists. Additionally, parent dogs are trained for one to two years to ensure they possess the desired temperaments. Notably, some dogs, like Osiris and Synari, are in training for psychiatric service work within the breeder's own home.

Puppies are raised using protocols from Puppy Culture, focusing on early socialization and development in a home setting. The breeder is currently accepting applications for their next litter expected in 2025.

Meet the Adoptables: Portraits of Hope from the Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Photographed by Lisa Brice of Brice Photography.

I had the privilege of photographing some truly beautiful souls at the Moose Jaw Humane Society—each one with a story, a personality, and most importantly, a hope for a forever home. These animals are more than just adorable faces. They’re companions waiting for their second chance, and I’m honored to help share their stories through my lens.

The Moose Jaw Humane Society has been a cornerstone of animal welfare in the community for decades. Their dedicated team works tirelessly to provide shelter, medical care, enrichment, and love to countless homeless, abandoned, and neglected animals. They don’t just save lives—they change them.

As a photographer, I’ve learned that animals have a way of showing you exactly who they are if you just give them a little time and patience. Some were shy at first, Others were bold and bouncy, ready to play and soak up attention. But they all shared one thing: the longing for a family to call their own.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry friend to your life, I can’t recommend adoption enough the Moose Jaw Humane Society makes the process smooth, supportive, and thoughtful. Whether you’re a seasoned pet owner or a first-timer, they’ll help you find the right match.

You can learn more about the adoption process, meet the available animals, and even donate to support their mission by visiting their website or stopping by their shelter in Moose Jaw.

Moose Jaw Humane Society: thank you for the work you do, and thank you for letting me be a small part of it.

What to Wear for Family Photos

Family photos are a cherished keepsake, but picking the right outfits can feel overwhelming. The key is to choose clothing that is cohesive yet comfortable, ensuring that everyone looks their best while feeling at ease. In this guide, we’ll cover color coordination, seasonal outfit ideas, and expert styling tips to help you feel confident before your family photography session.

 Coordinating Outfits for Family Photos

Achieving a cohesive look doesn’t mean everyone has to wear the same thing. Instead, aim for complementary colors and styles that create harmony in your pictures.

Tips for Choosing Coordinated Outfits:

✅ Pick a color palette (e.g., earth tones, pastels, or jewel tones) and mix different shades.
✅ Stick to three to four colors to maintain balance.
Avoid busy patterns that clash—opt for subtle textures like knits or denim.
✅ Choose neutral bases (e.g., beige, navy, or gray) with pops of color.
✅ Keep everyone’s style aligned—if one person is formal, others shouldn’t be too casual.

Choosing Seasonal Colors for Family Pictures

Your photo location and season play a big role in picking the perfect color scheme. Here are seasonal outfit ideas to help guide your choices:

🌸 Spring Family Photos

  • Soft pastels like blush pink, baby blue, and lavender.
  • Light fabrics such as linen or cotton for a fresh look.

☀️ Summer Family Photos

  • Bright and cheerful tones like coral, teal, or mustard yellow.
  • Breezy, lightweight outfits that allow movement.

🍁 Fall Family Photos

  • Warm, earthy colors like rust, olive green, and mustard.
  • Cozy layers such as sweaters, cardigans, and boots.

❄️ Winter Family Photos

  • Rich, deep hues like burgundy, navy, or emerald.
  • Elegant textures such as wool, velvet, or knit scarves.

Things to Avoid for Family Pictures

Certain clothing choices can distract from the beauty of your photos. Here’s what to skip:

  •  Neon colors – They cast unflattering reflections on the skin.
  •  Large logos or text – These draw attention away from the faces.
  •  Avoid White socks – Keep the focus on the face.
  •  Ultra-trendy pieces – Stick to classic looks for timeless photos.

Plain, long sleeve is best!!

Final Touches – Accessories & Footwear

Accessories can elevate your family photo look without overwhelming it. Consider these finishing touches:
✨ Avoid white socks- White show up in photos and you want attention to your face.
Minimal jewelry – Keep it subtle so it doesn’t distract from your faces.
Comfortable black/dark shoes – Ensure everyone’s footwear is both stylish and practical for the location.

Why have a portrait or photo done with your pets, in Regina, Sask?

One of the most compelling reasons for pet owners to have a portrait with their beloved animals is the profound emotional connection these images capture. Pets are often regarded as family members, providing unconditional love and companionship. A portrait serves as a tangible representation of that bond, allowing owners to celebrate their unique relationship. Whether it's a playful puppy or a loyal senior dog, these portraits immortalize moments in time, reminding owners of the joy their pets bring into their lives.

Additionally, having a portrait with a pet can serve as a beautiful form of self-expression for pet owners. Just as individuals choose art that resonates with their personality or experiences, a pet portrait can reflect the owner's love for their animal and their shared adventures. This artwork can adorn homes, bringing warmth and character to living spaces while also sparking conversations with guests who can appreciate the special relationship. With each glance at the portrait, pet owners are reminded of the happiness and laughter their pets inspire.

Lastly, portraits can have therapeutic benefits, especially during difficult times. Pets can be a source of comfort and support during life’s challenges, and having a portrait can serve as a reminder of the positive influence they have.

For owners who may experience grief after losing a pet, a portrait can become a cherished keepsake that allows them to cherish the memories they created together. In this way, pet portraits not only honor the life lived but also provide solace, ensuring that the love shared continues to be celebrated long after the pet has passed.
